Born out of the sea, soak books is a sense of immersion.
Founded by Hong Kong-born, London-based artist duo Deacon Lui (photographer) and Jane Lam (photographer and writer), soak books is an independent bookmaking studio dedicated to creating photography books that explore social justice, identity, memory, and marginalised personal narratives.
In making our books, we immerse ourselves in the lives of others, and invite readers to let memories soak in. Our books are exhibitions in themselves – they are portable objects that hold images, words, and sequences in ways that echo the experience of moving through a gallery. Each book carries this sense of immersion, inviting readers to soak in the experience, dwell in memories, and reflect deeply on the stories a book can hold.
